Arrive to a warm welcome and a traditional afternoon tea, served in the Drawing Room or Conservatory. Our pianist will play as you dine in the relaxed surroundings of the Prelude Restaurant.
Christmas Eve
Relax in the comfort of the Hotel, or take to the hills and return to hot chocolate and a roaring log fire. The evening begins with a Champagne Reception followed by a five-course candle-lit dinner, with swing music from members of the Brian Melville
Band. The Village Carol Singers make their annual visit during the evening. The midnight Carol Service in the neighbouring St. Oswald’s Church is a magical experience, and warm mince pies and mulled wine await your return.
Christmas Day
Attend morning service, or stroll around the Village and gardens before a seven-course Christmas Lunch of traditional delicacies and House specialities. Coffee and Christmas cake will be served in the Drawing Room, where a variety of board games and jigsaws are available. In the evening there will be a sumptuous buffet, and light entertainment.
Boxing Day
Buck’s Fizz and an extensive brunch before setting out for our famous Charity Duck Race on the nearby river Rothay - mulled wine and mince pies available for river bank supporters. Return to the Hotel for tea, and perhaps a swim or sauna, before a tutored Wine Tasting and evening Banquet, with enchanting harp playing from Anne-Kate Pearson, and a visit from theLonsdale Handbell Ringers.
27th December
A copious Cumberland breakfast before departure, or heading out for a day of leisurely exploration. A private view ofWordsworth’s Dove Cottage by candlelight has been arranged for late afternoon, and the Classic Ensemble String Trio willplay during dinner.

Guests will be welcomed with a glass of champagne before dinner and entertained by Brian Melville at the piano during a relaxed and convivial evening.
New Year's Eve
A Highland breakfast to fortify you, whether you choose to enjoy the facilities of the Hotel or roam further afield. At lunchtime there will be a warming glass of mulled wine and some tasty snacks.
Champagne Cocktails will be served before the skirl of the bagpipes heralds a Gala Dinner, to be followed by dancing to the music of Jazz Lines in the Coleridge Suite. Our piper, John Dillon, brings in the New Year.
New Year's Day
The day starts with Buck's Fizz and an extensive brunch, followed by a guided scenic walk, with a reviving drink en route. Return to the Hotel for a cream tea. The New Year banquet in the Prelude Restaurant will be accompanied by swing music from members of the Brian Melville Band.
